I got a proper HBA card

I got the HBA card from Amazon the other day. It's an LSI / Broadcom 9300-8i SGL with two mini SAS/SATA connectors. I also got the cables for it SFF-8643 Host to SATA Target. The cables doesn't come with the card. You have to buy them separately. (Click on Read more)

It was the first time I ordered from Amazon. I must say that their packaging is pretty crap. Just a thin paper bag. It didn't even have bubble wrapping inside of it.

I'm not sure if I will go with mechanical drives or 2.5" SATA SSD's. The PC case can fit a lot more SSD's (32), but the max storage on SSD's are kind of low. Mechanical drives can store a lot more, but they are bigger, noisy, consume more power. I can "only" fit 8 of them in the PC case.

Cost per GB on SSD's is a lot higher compared to mechanical drives. A rumor I heard is that a lot of mechanical drives above 8 TB use the SMR thing, even on drives made for RAID (NAS drives).

The card get really hot so I'm going to mount a 20mm fan from Noctua on it to keep it a bit cooler. The card is normally ment to be installed in a server and they got more airflow in the case than regular desktop cases. That's why I have to use the extra fan on it.
