Fix for Nvidia tray icon bug

When I installed the 591.44 drivers from Nvidia I noticed the disabling of the tray icon were bugged.
The tray icon came back every time the UAC (User Access Control) were activated. I tried to do a clean install of the drivers with no luck. A week later driver 591.59 were released. Same problem. But I found a fix. Two actually. Registry fixes.

Open Registry Editor (regedit) and go to:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\NvTray

Double-click on "StartOnLogin" and change the value to 0
If it doesn't exist, right-click and select New --> DWORD and name it StartOnLogin

When that's done, go to:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\nvlddmkm

Right click on "nvlddmkm" on the left panel and then create a new Key (ie. folder) named NvTray
Then finally create a DWORD "StartOnLogin" and set the value to 0

New YouTube channel

I have used YouTube since the start, basically. I created my latest channel Unipixel Media in January 2016. It's a tech channel with some random gaming videos. But mostly tech stuff. When I started upload gaming stuff, people didn't really care about that. They just cared about the tech stuff.

I also have a Twitch channel called Unimatrix36. But streaming isn't really my thing. Sure, I still watch other streamers, but I wont stream my self. I might get back to streaming in the feature, but right now I'm not going to stream anymore.

That's why I decided to have a dedicated gaming channel on YouTube. It's named after the user name I have in games and such. Unimatrix36 Gaming

Why YouTube?

  • People can watch the videos whenever they want
  • People are not locked to a time schedule (unless you live stream)
  • Quality on the videos is a lot better (higher bitrates, even for live streams)
  • I can use the AV1 encoder. Same quality, smaller files sizes
  • Transcoding for everyone. Not just for partners (and affiliates)
  • I can live stream as well, and the VOD's stay there until YOU delete them (no time limit)
  • I don't feel locked to the computer during a specific time

So if you are interested in a pro noob derping around in games: Unimatrix36 Gaming

Looking for a new job

It's time too look for a new job. I've been working with elektronik manufacturing for almost 15 years now. Both complete products for a companies own products and also manufacture circuit boards for other companies. Since I've done this for almost 15 years I have become really bored with it.
You do the same thing every day and no real opportunity for advancements. You get stuck doing the same thing every day. For the past 4 years about 200.000 circuit boards must have passed my inspections. And that just me. I bet about a million cards passed the group I worked in for the past 4 years.

It's time to do something completely different than manufacturing. Manufacturing will be my last resort. My dream job would be withing IT and doing that from home. I have some IT education in my backpack, but that knowledge is considered "too old" these days even though I've kept my self updated doing stuff with my own gear at home. I had an internship working as a support technician once, but that was also a long time ago.

I got two offers and one suggestion. The offers were running around in Stockholm on a bicycle as a "delivery boy". No thank you. Not when it's winter and -20 degrees. Second offer were like a service technician, driving around to different companies and fix stuff. It didn't say what to fix, but I guess fridges and stuff for food stores. Driving around in a car in Stockholm? No thanks. The suggestion were a parking ticket "officer", checking wrongly parked cars. I have diabetes Type 2 and need to pee a lot/often. I need quick access to a toilet. I need a fixed place to be at, not running around the city all day.

I also tried study again after regular school, but all I got out of that were a bunch of student loans.
I might go some shorter online courses, but they cost a lot money that I don't have. So right now studies is not really an option.

I can work with most things and I can still earn new stuff if companies let me. But these days they want you to be a specialist and have many many years of experience right from the start.

Well, lets see what the feature have to offer.

I got a proper HBA card

I got the HBA card from Amazon the other day. It's an LSI / Broadcom 9300-8i SGL with two mini SAS/SATA connectors. I also got the cables for it SFF-8643 Host to SATA Target. The cables doesn't come with the card. You have to buy them separately. (Click on Read more)

YouTube, aka KidsTube

I've used YouTube basically since the start. I had different channels over the years and I had the latest channel since January 2016 (8 years soon). About two years ago YouTube implemented more "kids friendly" settings for the channels and I set mine to "Not made for kids". The channel never recovered from that.

When I see the graph below, I feel like to quit YouTube completely. It's the lifetime stats of the channel. YouTube turned into KidsTube and I have no place in it. I don't want to have a place in it either.
I think I just give up now.

Control an Android phone from a PC

I have started to make som videos for YouTube again. In some of them I might show people how different apps work on my phone. There is a way to control my Android phone from the PC.

I use a software called scrcpy for this. In the embedded video down below I show you how it works.
This solution works with Android tablets as well, not just the phone. You can use either WiFi or USB. With USB the phone need to have debugging enabled.

So, these are the steps to make it work.
